I've got another thread going that tries to spell out my problem; I just upgraded my Mom's computer from 10.10 to 11.4. I ran "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" and after rebooting was greeted with a screen saying that her hardware wasn't going to work with Unity and telling her to fix it when she got gnome legacy working. Problem is that there is no way to get past that screen!

I'm wondering if anyone can point me to a guide that shows me how to go in with a live cd and correct this? I can sort of conjure up a basic way to hack my way in, and just came up with this after a quick search.

Looks like a good place to start. But what would it take to get Unity to work in the fall-back mode if the live cd method works? What file or files would I need to edit, etc? Anybody know?
