Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade to 11.04 and it seems to stall while running modprobe. I would be very grateful if somebody could suggest something I might try. The last output I get from the installer is:

Setting up linux-image-2.6.38-10-generic (2.6.38-10.46) ...
Running depmod.
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-10-generic

Then it stalls :-/ Here is some output from 'ps aux':

Should I kill some of these processes? Is this safe or even sane? Does anybody have any suggestions about how can I get the upgrade process to continue?

I have had some ongoing problems with cups, and have had to manually kill "start cups" and "stop cups" processes, but I think that this is a separate issue.

Thanks in advance!

I think I have found the solution. I killed the update-initramfs, mkinitramfs and modprobe processes. I then tried sudo dpkg --configure -a, but this led to the same error messages and stalled. I tried several workarounds on this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1611122.html) (none of which succeeded) and then finally got a successful workaround from this thread. (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/642421/comments/31)

I'll now see if it restarts . . . !
