"Preparing to install ubuntu" hangs.

I am trying to install Ubuntu on my desktop. The problem I am having it that the installer never gets past the "Preparing to install Ubuntu" page. I t just hangs there. I have had it on my computer before so I am not sure what's going on. I am trying to dual boot with windows 7 and wiping the hard drive is not an option.

EDIT: Should have put that this is on 64-bit. I am going to try 32 now.

Don't waste your 64bit hardware on a 32bit OS! I'm sure, there is a simple solution to this problem.

You can also try to install without that nifty GUI (that sometimes has problems)

EDIT: As always, using 64b OS is better if you have 4Gb ram or more.

Did you verify the iso? Maybe verifying your RAM could also give an indication about a problem.
