Now that Dapper Drake is off the drawing board and on it's final way out to everybody.

Has there been any improvements in the installation and usage of Win-ternal modems ? :-k

Will they be at all, more supported now that this latest version of ubuntu is finally coming out from Ship-it.?

If so, then could someone please say ( to the best of your knowlage ) what modems will now work in ubuntu?
( keeping fingers crossed );)

I'm just really kinda curious to find out a little more.

I had a look at This page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DialupModemHowto#head-66d0d948c2a02d4046c1c4eb4db7ac500a8289b5) but i didn't say much..

From what I hear winmodem support will be at the same level it is in Breezy. Basically nonexistant.

Seriously, stop wearing yourself out flogging a dead horse.

Now that everyone's going $12.99/mo. DSL, used external modems are dirt cheap and they actually WORK with Linux. If people aren't just throwing them out, they'll sell them for $5. A buddy of mine in Oregon found a dumpster with about fifty 3Com v.90 externals in it outside a big office complex.

Software (DSP/HSP/HSF) modems virtually never work 100% properly with Linux, even so-called "Linmodems."

Face it, they don't even work that well under Windows.

Yeah, some municipal administrative offices when they went broadband. Couldn't find any buyers who'd pay enough to make the hassle of selling worthwhile, apparently, so they just had the janitorial staff trash them.

You'd be astonished at what businesses throw out, and how much of it!

That's how I got my USR external here. A friend fished it out of the trash when his office went broadband five years ago. I've been using DSL for a while myself, though.
