Looking for the next movie to watch. I'm wanting some end of the world drama thriller.

Movies I've seen:

2012
2081
Aeon Flux
Avatar
Babylon AD
The Book of Eli
The Day After Tomorrow
Equilibrium
The Fifth Element
Gattaca
The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Independence Day
Logan's Run
The Lord of the Rings (Series)
The Matrix (Series)
Mutants (French)
Pandorum
Planet of the Apes
Resident Evil (Series)
Sleeping Dogs
Sunshine
Terminator (Series)
Zombieland

Any suggestions?

This is no movie, but this might be interesting if you're interested
in apocalypse:

Scary stuff, for sure!

Avatar and Gattaca aren't exactly apocalyptic.

I found Aeon Flux surprisingly good.

I wonder if the Terminator (the original good ones) qualifies as an apocalyptic move ... probably not.

I guess I have to add Zombieland to the mix.

More like preventing the apocalypse, but try Sunshine.

Wow, no Independence Day (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116629/) in that list? I thought that was pretty entertaining even if it has a silly ending. The Fifth Element (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119116/) is another good contender.

I still think one of the best of the 1950's monster sci-fi flicks is Them (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047573/).

If you're open to an animated movie, I'd suggest the recent Japanese film Summer Wars (http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/browse/item/90067/4/0/0). It's about a lot more than apocalyptic visions, though.

Go watch any of the recent documentaries on climate change and/or the energy crisis. They are truly horrifying.

Or you could watch any of the old ones as well, same "we are all going to die if we don't do something soon!" story line, just a different year.

Great Classic! Saw it as a kid, and I still remember the haunting melody of "Waltzing Matilda"

Edit: How about 2012?

No one has mentioned the Mad Max trilogy? I can't believe Armageddon hasn't been mentioned.

The Day After Tomorrow was decent. So was the old 80's TV movie called The Day After about nuclear war.

For a literal apocalypse movie, how about the old 1976 movie The Omen?

I was pretty much depressed after watching that, good movie though.

Cataclysms are boring. Movies after the bomb so to speak are what's interesting. See Blade Runner for instance.

The road (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0898367/) was alright. I'm not a big fan of those types of movies.

I've always been a fan of the Zompocalypse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombie_apocalypse)

The disease and alien invasion variety can also be quite fun. Never really liked the post-nuclear Armageddon ones though, 'cept the silly ones like Six String Samaurai or Tank Girl.

I remember watching a movie called "The Day After" which talk about after effect of a nuclear attack. Pretty awesome but hardly end of the world.

I tried not to add duplicates, but I surely have...

On its original broadcast (Sunday, November 20, 1983), ABC and local TV affiliates opened 1-800 hotlines with counselors standing by.

You gotto be kidding me?

I don't normally like horror films, but 28 Days Later is brilliant. I also love Sunshine but I see you've already seen that. Err...Deep Impact? Much better than Armageddon. There's also The Day After Tomorrow if you want to ignore "good" in the title :)

Most of these are not apocalyptic movies in the traditional sense, but have some apocalyptic elements:

Songs from the second floor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Songs_from_the_Second_Floor) (not about zombies and stuff, but has some apocalyptic ambience. IMO it's an awsome movie).
12 Monkeys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_monkeys) (already mentioned).
Until the End of the World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Until_the_End_of_the_World).
28 Days Later (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/28_Days_Later).

Thank goodness there are people who can appreciate a truly awesome cheesy movie. You, sir, rock.

Less Hollywood gloss, more reality. The proof of everything you need to know is written in the Bible, and the existence of creation is your existence, and of the things surrounding you everywhere.

Deny or accept it, I'm judging noone, and these still are great films, no matter your belief. :)

When the wind blows (already mentioned but very good)
The Day After (No not The Day after Tomorrow, this one deals with the horrors of nuclear war)
