I am new to Linux and I have been trying to install Linux 11.04 inside Windows 7 using Virtual Box. The problem is it didn't detect the existing Windows 7 and hence didn't give me the option to install Linux alongside Windows 7 as shown on instructions on this link http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/installing I have been following.
It only gave me 2 options 1. Erase disk and install Ubuntu and
2. Something else

I don't want to delete my existing Windows so I chose option 2 which requires me to choose new partition table and specify mounting point etc. Please help because I don't know which mounting point to choose and the partitioning etc.

Thank you for your help

Welcome to the forums!

If you wanted to install in VirtualBox, then your windows partition will be untouched - except for the virtual disk image file (VDI). So it is normal, that Ubuntu in a Virtual Machine (VM) will not see the host's Disk.
