I suppose most of you know the about the hacking scandal concerning Rupert Murdochs'
newspaper "News of the World". Now Murdochs daily tabloid newspaper THE SUN
has been hacked by LulzSec. When I'm writing this http://www.thesun.co.uk/ is still down!

I thought it was that software company bought by Oracle.

Me, too. Though I worry what this will mean if Britons can't get their daily "Page 3 (http://www.page3.com/)" fix. (The Page 3 site is currently unavailable. It looks like their DNS servers are offline. I can't resolve any records for the page3.com domain.)

I guess being in the limelight was a bit too tempting for them.

Update:

Now the SUN's website (http://www.thesun.co.uk) is up again,
but there is NO notice (as far as I can tell) about their website
being hacked.

being hacked.Maybe it wasn't? Could have been a simple technical glitch requiring downtime to fix that some people attributed to lulzsec?

LOL. I don't think so... Didn't you read the article I referred to?

Hacking collective redirect Sun website to fake story claiming Rupert Murdoch had been found dead – before redirecting site to the LulzSec Twitter account...

The hoax story suggested Murdoch had taken [the rare-earth metal] "palladium" before "stumbling into his famous topiary garden late last night". The page later redirected to LulzSec's Twitter account.

More information about this:

LulzSec hack: News International removes remote access
Rupert Murdoch's company takes webmail systems offline and
resets passwords in the aftermath of Sun website hack
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jul/19/lulzsec-hack-news-international-website?intcmp=239

Now, this is an interesting read:

How LulzSec hacked the Sun's website
Weakness in disregarded server was used to gain access to
News International systems and then redirect traffic to fake
web page, and then to LulzSec's Twitter feed
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jul/19/how-lulzsec-hacked-sun-website?intcmp=239

But the problems for the News International team aren't over. A number of email addresses and passwords were being tweeted last night on various feeds – implying that the hackers may have gained access to the email archive and be preparing to release it. If that happens, the effects could be titanic.

If their goal is being amusing -- they are failing miserably at it.

It was funny the first few times, now it's old news. Face it they had their 15 minutes, it's over. Lulz :-P

What strikes me about this, is that if the people behind LulzSec cannot
stop themselves from doing these high-profile attacks, they will eventually
get caught. If they really had retired for good, chances are that they
would get away with it. But if they keep up ******* powerful institutions off,
sooner or later they'll be arrested.

I think what they've been doing never was funny, and especially not now.

I personally don't think too much about it. Like all activist groups they will become a victim of modern media. Once everyone stops covering their stories they'll die off when they can't get the lime light fix they need.

The victims should sue him Rupert Murdoch for every penny he has. Then he should go to jail.

Lulz :-PNot sure if they are trying to "funny"...their goal seems more to point out the inadequacies of various sites "security". Sure, it pisses those organizations/ government agencies off, but better a group that cracks then posts said cracking/ security failings instead of real undesirables getting into those places and using the information in nefarious ways.

Fantastic! Best thing they have ever done.

Murdoch deserves far worse, at least they made some of us laugh at the man responsible for so much pain & hardship on this planet.

There is a great documentary called "Outfoxed - Rupert Murdoch's war on journalism" you can watch it here:

As much as I detest The Sun (why anyone pays for such dribble is beyond me), it would be nice if LulzSec would just go away. The bottom of the ocean, the middle of a motorway, or simple retirement; anything would do.

Let me get this straight, when the Murdoch news empire hacks into phones they are dragged into court, and most members here condemn them, yet when these LulzSec hack into Murdock's servers and STEAL files it's,

well they deserve it,
good on them,
Fantastic! Best thing they have ever done,
Murdoch deserves far worse,
etc etc

And this "The victims should sue him Rupert Murdoch for every penny he has":
Rupert Murdoch (well his empire) was the victim.

I don't know what is worse, the hacking of the Murdoch servers, or the condoning of it that I am seeing here :frown:

The only thing the Murdoch news empire has done (granted sometimes by dubious means) is provide items for the general public to buy, thats right, if the public did not want the trash it puts out, they would not put it out, its all about supply and demand, and the public seems to demand trash, however it is obtained.

Cheers David

Well, well... What do we hear. The first arrest of a member of LulzSec has been made:

LulzSec aren't hacking victims families phones. Murdoch's companies on the other hand infiltrate victims phones and make news stories out of them. I don't condone what LulzSec are doing, they released regular Joe's credit card details, but in the grand scheme of things Rupert Murdoch has much more blood on his hands.
