Hello there folks, do you think I could install anything on this old piece of hardware? Sadly it has only 256 of RAM so latest Ubuntu is out of question, but how about some older versions?

Any ideas? It would only be used for surfing and streaming music.

Thank you for your time!

Lubuntu might be a good choice, or may be Crunchbang, AniX or Debian XFCE.

+1 for Lubuntu.

I am running it on a laptop with 512 MB ram and celeron cpu. At idle it uses about 90MB ram, so should be OK on your system with 256, but try as a live CD first just to make sure it runs, and with that small amount of ram, don't bother to try libreoffice, stick with abiword and gnumeric.
