I have a friend who has a Windows system and he has a cool Widget (I think they are called) that allows him to type notes which permanatly stay on his desktop. Does Ubuntu have something like this? Thanks and sorry for this noob question :)

Hi there,

Yes, I think 'Gnote' and 'Tomboy Notes' (I think) are able to do this in Ubuntu. For Kubuntu, there are desktop widgets which do this.

If you are using the Ubuntu Classic desktop (not the Unity desktop) then you can get this by right clicking on the panel and then click Add to Panel. Choose Sticky Notes and then click Add. This will place a yellow icon on your panel. To add a note to the desktop left click on the icon and choose new note.
