What do you like to watch better a movie or t.v show?

Personally I like movies better, but there are some t.v shows I like that are similar to movies such as Harper's Island.

What about you?

I like them both equally. I do watch more shows, just because I find it hard to find movies that I am interested in... where with shows if I find a series I like, I can pick up a whole season and have something to watch for a while.

The only TV shows I watch nowadays are anime, otherwise only movies.

Same here. Both equally. You should have an option for that. :P

Movies !
I lose interest in a show in a hurry if there is too much advertising . I will often stop watching a show weather I like it or not for this reason . I know which channels are the major offenders and avoid them . I know there are ways to get around commercials , but the cost isn't justified yet .

I don't watch television and I don't go to the cinema. Television is the opium of the people.

I voted for tv shows, because I use them as background noise [I mostly don't watch them actively, unless it's something new].
I have no tv, but I do have a few series on HDD, which I continuously run to have some background noise [when needed].

$10 says you keep those links in a .txt file on your desktop for a quick, nice troll to throw on forums whenever this topic comes up.

In my youth I studied graphic design for television,
but after giving television up, the effects of television
on our society has been something I've done extensive
research on.

I could throw literally hundreds of more links in if you'd like.
And I could refer to more books than you'd have the patience
to read too.

Let's face it, if you don't watch television or movies you are reading books, which can also be just Twinkies for the mind. Ditto with whatever you do if you don't read. The solution is to be a critical viewer/reader/listener/whatever and not just veg out. There are movies that offer well-presented comments on life or society, or they can simply be beautiful, like any other form of art. If you categorically dismiss all movies, though, you'll miss them.

Everything in moderation. :)

On the other hand I work at a movie theatre, so I'm possibly biased!

Either way you sound like a real bundle of laughs.

Back on topic, I watch both but I do really like tv series. Specifically the actiony type ones like Prison Break, 24, Lost etc. Also like Sitcoms like Only Fools and Horses (a brit one).

The solution is to be a critical viewer/reader/listener/whatever and not just veg out.

What is it about TV that has such a hold on us? In part, the attraction seems to spring from our biological "orienting response." [..] the orienting response is our instinctive visual or auditory reaction to any sudden or novel stimulus. [..] Typical orienting reactions include dilation of the blood vessels to the brain, slowing of the heart, and constriction of blood vessels to major muscle groups. Alpha waves are blocked for a few seconds before returning to their baseline level, which is determined by the general level of mental arousal. [..]In 1986 Byron Reeves of Stanford University, Esther Thorson of the University of Missouri and their colleagues began to study whether the simple formal features of television--cuts, edits, zooms, pans, sudden noises--activate the orienting response, thereby keeping attention on the screen. [..] The researchers concluded that these stylistic tricks can indeed trigger involuntary responses and "derive their attentional value through the evolutionary significance of detecting movement... [...] Annie Lang's research team at Indiana University has shown that heart rate decreases for four to six seconds after an orienting stimulus. In ads, action sequences and music videos, formal features frequently come at a rate of one per second, thus activating the orienting response continuously. source:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=television-addiction-is-n

In other words, the fundamental difference between television and writing, is that television activates a reflex hard-wired into our biology in order to keep us transfixed. Even if you become a critical viewer, you won't escape the fact that the medium itself exerts a “push” that is lacking in written media.
The difference is in the form, not in the content!

On the other hand I work at a movie theatre, so I'm possibly biased!Perhaps... ;) Television is the main source of mediated information for the majority of people on the earth. Yet, we cannot rely on television to inform us about the problematic sides about television, because of self interest. As a consequence, the research about television gets a limited audience.

I like some series- scifi and documentaries usually. SG-1, Atlantis, every star trek except TOS and ENT. Honestly though, most TV on now is absolute crap- so I just keep rerunning the hundreds of shows I like for background noise. I do like some movies- usually same genera.
