I need a way to stop my WiFi card from sleeping when I lock my laptop (Ctrl+Alt+L)

There are two reasons I want to do this:

1) My WiFi card is dodgy (Even in windows). If it goes to sleep I need to reboot to get it to function.

2) I am considering running my computer as a web-server. If my WiFi sleeps then it becomes inaccessible.

In windows I was able to go into device manager and tell it to prevent the device from sleeping. I can't seem to find anything similar in ubuntu.

P.S. As for number 2, I am getting a big long cat5 cable to connect it to my router, but I don't know if the Ethernet port sleeps too? (This is not always an ideal soloution, it is a laptop...)

Any help is appreciated.
