Upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04

i'm trying to upgrade from ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 using an alternative installer disc.
after a while it gives this error, and closes update

i don't know what i have to do now...
i someone can help me ?

Did the OS itself get upgraded? Do you have a working OS? Can you get an Internet connection with it? If so, then I suggest that you run Update Manager and see if it will update these three files. May be you have already done this. I think that we need to know.

I am not sure about 10.04 but I know that 10.10 and 11.04 as well as beta versions of 11.10 will offer to update over the Internet when doing either an install or distribution upgrade from CD. Were you able to have an Internet connection during the distribution upgrade process?
