Fax is faster because it isn't routed, it goes via a direct phone line connection. Email goes via the Internet, and can be routed all over the place before it gets to its destination.

Neither are instantaneous. Information cannot be propagated speeds faster than the speed of light via the Internet.

Still doesn't transfer information. Just gives you a bit which you could use for e.g. an encryption key
