Hi All,
I'm new to LINUX platform.
I downloaded ubuntu 11.04 from the official site. While installing i came across the ALLOCATING SPACE WINDOW.
I have an 1TB Hard Disk & i partitioned as,
/ - 20 GB
/local/usr - 200 GB
/tmp - 10 GB
/Home - 100GB
swap - 40GB &
/var - 500 GB
/src - 130GB

but what happened after installation is,
all the folders & files are installed in 500GB allocated for /VAR.
I'm seriously confused. when i go see any docs regarding mounting. Its completely theoritical but its not good to understand the significance.

Kindly suggest me to have a good partition based on my needs.
Partition 1 for all the installation files (OS,Database,ETL Tool,Reporting tool) - (200GB)
Partition 2 for all the software dumps (300 GB)
Partition 3 for all Personal Files (100)
Partition 4 for to store Movies & Songs (400 GB)

Please help me out along with the Mount Name also.
Thanks in advance.

Hi - can you tell us how much RAM you have.

If you've not got any further than installing I would expect it will be easier to reinstall.

Do you have a need to break the install over so many partitions or is it the result of reading something on the internet?
