I am getting the grub rescue prompt and I cannot get beyond it. The error is unknown device then a string of numbers and letters. I had originally installed to windows using wubi then I installed to harddrive. I have included my grub.cfg. THanks for your help with this.

First: please put that file in CODE tags (click on the # symbol in edit mode)

Second: Run the boot info script from a live CD: http://bootinfoscript.sourceforge.net/ (and place it in CODE tags)

This will give us more info.

It is probably solvable by reinstalling GRUB as shown here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows#Recovery%20 Using%20the%20Ubuntu%20Desktop/Live%20CD%20%28RECOMMENDED%29

But I would want to see the output of the boot info script before you do that.
