Hello all,
Please assume I know next to nothing in relation to graphics, art and design :).
I would like to edit a JPG file by applying a 'fuzzy border' as you see in the attached screenshot around the words 'Firefox Web Browser'. Can anyone tell me how to do it, as simply as possible, please?
Thank you.

Select the area where you want this effect applied by using the "rectangle select tool",
in the toolbox, then go to filters>blur>and choose "gaussian blur". Fool around with
the settings until you get the desired look.

hi
I think Dry Lips is referring to a "how to" using the GIMP. Assuming you are using the GIMP It might however, be easier to make a selection of the area you want to apply the drop shadow to then click Filters -> Light and Shadow -> Drop Shadow
this is applicable in GIMP 2.6.10

hi

Yes you're right, sorry! I forgot to mention that you should do this with GIMP,
but it is also possible to use another image editing program such as Pinta.
Assuming you are using the GIMP It might however, be easier to make a selection of the area you want to apply the drop shadow to then click Filters -> Light and Shadow -> Drop Shadow
this is applicable in GIMP 2.6.10Yes, but only if you set "offset X & Y" to 0.
If you use "drop shadow", you must also choose the same colour
for the shadow as object you wish to add the "fuzzy edge" to.
In other words, "drop shadow" will only work if the object you're
adding the border to has one colour. If it has several colours,
use "gaussian blur" as I outlined above.
Good luck!
