View Full Version : [all variants] Help me decide on a new 13" laptop

Hi guys,

Hope this question fits the forum.

I've been using various linux distrubtions for the last few years. I am not - in anny way - more then a beginner. But I have come to love the friendly linux community, the infinite amount of customizations, and that my old laptop actually runs quite smooth with the light weight openbox WM.

But now I am going to africa for a consulinting gig. For this I have decided I need a new laptop, wich is very portable and which has a long battery time.

My favourite contestant so far is the Sony Vaio sb1x9e OR the latest macbook pro 13".

But: Looking around in this forum and others, it seems that the Vaio and macbook both have compatibility problems with linux. The Vaio has problems (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1731232) with the graphic cards, touchpad and camera/mic, and the macbook has problems with wifi (maybe more).

So - do you know of any alternative new 13 inch laptop, with comparative specs - that will run smooth on linux?

As I will not go back to windows, I am seriously considering the macbook because of the terminal and *nix core - but I hate apple's walled gardens, lack of customisations etc.

So please - help me not to buy a macbook :-)

Thank you in advance!
