maybe smooth out some lines? I'm not sure mini leopards have square areas on their tails and such. In general, it's a pretty sweet wall!

Well, first of all... If I were you I'd be very careful about using
the lensflare effect in images. When I for the first time tried out
Photoshop back in 96-97, I thought lensflares were
really cool. But in reality lensflare is an error that occurs
when taking photographs, and generally is something
photographers try to avoid.

Secondly: If this is your first wallpaper, I'd say well done!
Don't stop playing around with GIMP; it is the way you
eventually learn to master the program.
Don't be afraid to experiment and try out new features,
and in the end I'm sure you'll end up as a GIMP-pro!

I don't like the position the cat is in... it's like... pooping....
But keep it up! Art is 90% anger!
edit: The other 10% is also anger, but optional.
edit edit: I'm not implying that anger is the subject in art, only its fuel.
edit edit edit: one more thing. The anger must be directed at your work, no matter how pretty it is, even if you're drawing bunnies.
edit edit edit edit: example: RAAAAAAAHH!!!
edit edit edit edit edit edit: Just kidding... I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Position of the cat is right - in the center. Its the artistic taste that is lacking and the performance.
1. Black cat - an inaccurately cut black silhouette with waves on it - is a giant black spot. The mutant says "I beg you, finish me!"
2. Ubuntu text is blurred.
3. Whats that black frame around the image? This effect is for the photographs, and not for any.
4. Sunlight. Coming out from the black area on top. Man!
Scrap it - you need to learn photoshop, or GIMP, or whatever - but before that you need to learn some basic things of graphic art, design. Have a look at the current contest on Flickr - wallpapers like this (not "it", but quite good):
