Have already tried various things to work around this without success (apm does not appear to be supported by the old P2 440LX motherboard, but acpi is; Windows XP and antiX Linux both power off during shutdown on same machine):
1) Altering the Grub boot parameters to specify acpi=force
2) Altering the Grub boot parameters to specify acpi=force lapic
Since Ubuntu 9.10 shutdown properly with power off on this same box prior to upgrade and since Windows XP and AntiX Linux also both shutdown properly with power off on this very same box, I would like to know what I should do to alter Ubuntu 10.10 to perform in the same manner.
