yes i know that theirs 11.4 but i hate the feel of it .
so i'd like to upgrade to 10.4 w/o destroying my current setup and data , any way i can do this safely ?

Sure, you can treat 10.04 as a separate distro and install it in a different partition. You could try to copy out Home and copy it into the 10.04 Home but I'd expect some issues. You'd also need to determine what all packages you have installed and reinstall them. There is a procedure for that but keep in mind that is usually done for an actual upgrade instead of a downgrade.

Did the classic gnome DE in 11.04 not meet your needs in some way?

i like where its all set and setup for menus and stuff

plus isnt 10.4 an upgrade from 10.10 as UD.UD = the inital version and UD.4 = the LTS version

No, what you're interested in is a downgrade. To keep your settings there is either an in place upgrade or work to do for changing to 10.4 or 11.4. Either way, you should make a good backup first.
