Hello,
I am attempting to install Ubuntu on my Toshiba laptop. I am starting to get the feelng that Ubuntu and this laptop are not compatible. I have attempted to install Ubuntu; Kubuntu; Xubuntu, to na avail. I have successfully installed Linux Mint 10.10 Julia and OpenSUSE. Everytime I try to install Ubuntu everything is gravy until I unplug the Ethernet then there is an instant freeze. I can not boot from a flash drive unless connected to Ethernet, also. Any ideas?

Sounds pretty strange alright. Mint Julia is built from ubuntu and very much like 10.10 ubuntu. Ubuntu 11.04 and some of its flavors changes to Grub2, a newer kernel, kernel mode setting and a newer X server so video issues aren't unusual. Never heard of what your issue is though. I am on a Toshiba L505, what is yours? I have 11.4 Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu along with 11.10 Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora15 and debian on this. Pass on your model details and the output of lspci and lshw and maybe we can figure this out.
