I'm trying to teach myself Ubuntu Server as a complete noob to Linux and servers. I would love if there was someone who offered a service where I could contact them when I'm stuck, and they would explain to me what's going on and help me get unstuck. I've been looking through liveperson.com, but there aren't many Ubuntu knowers on there. I did a search on this forum and someone mentioned linuxtutors.com, but it's just a parking page now. :(

Could anyone tell me where I could find someone who offers such a service?

You could always use this forum.

And if that's not enough, you can try one of the Ubuntu IRC channels, including #ubuntu, and VERY helpful: #ubuntu-beginners. Both on Freenode.net

I think the problem is that the super nice clever people answering questions are swarmed by all of us noobs asking for free help. So a paid tutor seems like a more viable solution.

Have you considered purchasing a Canonical Support Contract?

I found the best way for me to learn is to break it, and if I can't fix it, re-install and try again. It also helps that when I started using a Linux distro, you had to use the command line to setup everything.

I am a Linux/Unix administrator. If you run in to any issues feel free to PM me. I wont charge anything! Whats nice about us Linux admins compared to Windows, we don't mind helping each other without a huge cost =)

Also the people on this forum are real nice, and there are some real smart guys out here, if they see that you atleast tried, they will help!

#1 Rule of Linux, dont ask a question unless you have atleast tried to figure it out on your own!

The IRC channel is great for simple questions.

Forums are alright for more complicated questions.

If you want, you can contact me via Email, Gtalk, or Google Plus at undecim11@gmail.com and ask me anything. I won't charge anything... Unless of course you're just dead set on paying for a tutor.

Canonical (company behind Ubuntu) has paid Home Support (http://shop.canonical.com/product_info.php?products_id=715) for a fairly low price in case you needed it.
