SAS >= SATA > IDE

If I remember correctly the SAS and SATA protocols are similar, but the SAS drives tend to be faster and more robust (and more expensive).

IDE is old school, and the better for it as it is more compatible.

IDE is intergrated drive electronics, my SATA drives are IDE and my PATA drives are IDE.

I always thought SCSI was old school...

SATA and SAS are both 6Gb/s aren't they?

Not really. SCSI has been around a long time but unlike IDE it's always been the better technical solution for low to mid-range computers, though rarely the better financial solution.
