I have read similar stories in other threads but not this one exactly.
I have had 11.04 running from a fast 8GB lexar USB drive for a few weeks with a persistent file of 2GB (and got it just the way I liked it). This was after the windows install died and even the recovery disk couldn't bring it back.
I logged off Ubuntu at work, shut down and pulled out the USB drive, then when I tried to boot up again on the train, it asked me for a user name and password for the first time ever.
I'm about to format and start again, looking back I really should have created a user account, and maybe made the persistent file larger? Is there anyway out of this mess or do I have to format the USB and start again.
