Not able to start system after upgrading to 11.04

Hi All,

I have upgraded my netbook edition to ubuntu 11.04. after upgradation all desktop icons are missing including power ,network etc and now even i can not start the netbook.It gets struck on the ubuntu start up screen and does not show any login screen or any other options .i have to use power switch to shut it down. plz help
