Hi guys, just got a new kitten which is 10 weeks old colour is brown and white (very dark brown almost black) unsure of sex at moment.

Being a linux nut I've already thought of naming it Tux but are there any other names out there?

How about...

Sudo - because you will find yourself obeying its every command.

Cappuccino - because, "colour is brown and white (very dark brown almost black)".

Ubuntu - because...

I had a kitten who was named Nina. Unfortunately she ran away, leaving our other cat heartbroken. And us pretty heartbroken too. I always thought Nina was a good name for a cat, so that's my suggestion.

Thanks for all your suggestions but I think Sudo wins. I'll start calling it Sudo. By the way, does anyone know how to tell what the sex is of a cat? I used to be able to determine its sex but that was 20 year ago, I've slept since then.

Okay, if I ever get a cat, I'm going with "Five". That is great.

Fairly similar to the way you determine the sex of a human!! :D :D :D

Nobody suggested Robert Heinlein's cat that walks through walls called Pixel?

Pixel was too stupid to know that one cannot walk through walls, so he simply ran/walked through them (space-time) whenever he felt like it.

_

For the sex, just look at the legal papers. Durr. It's difficult to tell the sex of my two cats as the male one has a high-pitched meow whereas the female one has a low-pitched one, but since we looked at all the legal stuff carefully back when we adopted them (May 2001 for the female and May 2007 for the male) before paying the we can tell. But naming the cat Sudo? *headdesk*

I gave my cats Japanese names and if you knew how each of them behaved you'd realize how much their names fit the two. It's a lot better than naming a cat after a Linux command tbh.

From my experience it's pretty easy to tell also. For a hint, lift the tale.

sed - cause he'll change whatever you tell him not to do into something to do
Daemon - More like FreeBSDs mascot, but still
Hurd - Gnu Hurd
Minix - ...
bash - cause he's a prompt one
claws - cause he can sink his claws into your mail
enigmail - cause he's cryptic

I'd call it poof cause it's cute.

My last three cats have been named Timon, Pumbaa and Nala.

If your cat looks tough, then maybe Simba or Mufasa.

If noisy and needy, then Zazu.

If it acts wise, then Rafiki.

Sometimes I call my dog Shenzi Marie Jackalina Hyena, though her normal name is Tasha.
