Hello,
is there a way to put drive icons on the desktop in lubuntu? For example, when I plug in a USB flash drive I want it to see it on the desktop.
Thanks in advance

Not at all, unfortunately, as that link is for nautilus and Ubuntu, not Lubuntu, as the OP asked about.

I have looked for this as well, but I don't think it is possible, or not in a quick simple manner that I could find.

Yes, unfortunately it doesn't work because there is no gconf on lubuntu

Sorry for not reading the op's problem closer. Will try to avoid confusing the situation in the future..

Found some information on LXDE. If this makes sense then please give it a try I am currently loading Lbuntu in a VM and will probably have much better advice once that is done.

"Open pcmanfm the file manager and go to Edit --> Preferences to the tab Desktop and make sure the Manage the desktop and show file icons checkbox is checked this will give you your desktop icons back. And if you would rather have the menu back you had make sure Show menus provided by WM when desktop is clicked is unchecked."

This advice came from here http://forum.lxde.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=280 and is a little old but I think the principle should still apply. As far as the GUI is concerned the file manager should have the setting for the desktop view. Anyway let me know if this helps if it does I will make sure I get this typed up in some organized manner and post it for posperity.

The reason I am staying with this is I feel bad for posting a crap solution the first time around.

The current version of pcmanfm doesn't manage the desktop.

Unfortunately Koleoptero is right, it is not as simple as you say, Steinerd.
