I am trying to upgrade to version 8.10 from 8.04, but I get the following error message

"Failed to extract

Extracting the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server."

Is there any way around it, or do I need to re-install everything from scratch?

Thanks.

It should be possible to upgrade to 10.04 if your computer meets system requirements since both are LTS .https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades
