Why are 'Cats' everywhere in avatars?

I don't post many questions of my own as they tend to be either too ambitious or too stupid. But couldn't help this one-

Why are more and more people on the forums seem to be obsessed with 'Cats' these days - specially admins/mods/ubuntu members and others among those with a lot of experience on ubuntuforums. That is- changing their avatars with different pictures of cats!!

I'm wondering if ubuntu-geek, bodhi.zazen and Joeb454 are next on the list.. :)
(and am also wondering if the mouse on the 'xfce' logo is looking for a place to hide and 'puppy' is about to leap on the forums.. ;))
