Windows & Professional 64 & Linux

I am building a new computer and plan to use 8 GB DDR3 memory & a Phenom II x6 CPU.

I will dual boot Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and Linux.

Any comments regarding Ubuntu vs Linux Mint?

Secondly would one use the 32 bit or 64 bit Linux OS?

Thanks in advance. I am a newbie using Linux and would like to become more comfortable with the OS.
