You wanna know where legends live?
At the rainbow's end I’ll be there
There’s a place in inner space
That’s where I'll get to you
I’m not the shy retiring kind
Like a supernova for the blind
I used to sit at God's right hand
But I quit that show to do my one night stands
Coming out the nowhere I'm a Godhead rider...
[chorus:]
You won’t see my face no more
My machine has left the floor
Leave my rivals in the dirt
I've seen your world and I got the shirt
Before I leave and go my way
I've loved it but I couldn’t stay
There’s nothing left for you to feel
Just remember me...

Out of the way, it's a busy day
I've got things on my mind
for want of the price of tea and a slice
the old man died.

I used to trust the media
to tell me the truth, that was the truth
But now I see the payoffs everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

I've got a little red bow
And I bought it for you
'Cause I know you're not fair
I don't get it, oh well
And you color my skin
And the colors don't blend
'Cause I'm gonna get you
And your little dog too
There's a yellow brick road
That we follow back home
'Cause I know you can't wait
Your belligerent hate
There's no place like home
There's no place like home
Like home

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom,
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'.
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished,
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance,
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence.
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears.

Not something that i expected
Now i smile from your effections

Just for whom does your bell toll

Well...I'm a musician and I could probably think of several dozen (hundred?) songs I love that have real meaning for me--from a huge variety of sources. I like everything from Hymns to Gospel to Blues and Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. What matters to me is the quality of the musicianship and the soul, whether I feel like I'm being communicated with or whether someone's trying to sell me something. Anyway, based on who I am today these two came to mind immediately. If the thread continues I may add more later depending on my mood. :) Who knows? I may quote anyone from Ozzy to John Newton.

Mercy by Glenn Kaiser Band
mercy came calling today,
God knows i needed to see her
courage left me out in the lane,
beat up and runnin' without her
she told me sit down, you made a mess of things
she was right
she said, you got to slow down,
don' need ta stay out all night
mercy
mercy reached out,
put her arms around me
kissed me and seemed at home
i said don't leave me, looked in her eyes
she knows who i am an' knows what i done
mercy came callin' today an'
i think it's the only way
i can sleep easy, or even sleep at all
mercy came singing tonight,
she called me out to dance
her sweet grace brought me delight,
it's so much more than romance
she took me right to it,
i didn't think i could do it
that old dragon's gone, mercy slew it
oh mercy put her arms around me,
kissed me, she seemed at home
i said don't leave me, i looked in her eyes,
she knows who i am an' she knows what i done
she forgives but she doesn't deceive me
oh mercy don't leave me
the radio here by my bed doesn't ring anymore in my head
mercy!
mercy came callin' today,
God knows i needed to see her
she came callin' today,
God knows i needed to see her
callin' today, oh callin' today,
mercy came callin' today

If I Can Help Somebody by Mahalia Jackson
If I can help somebody
As I travel along
If I can help somebody
With a word or song
If I can help somebody
From doing wrong
My living shall not be in vain.
My living shall not be in vain
My living shall not be in vain
If I can help somebody
While I'm singing this song
My living shall not be in vain.

I don't know why. But somehow I am always attracted to Acapella music over here. One actually came off of a show that was on TV there. And there was a software game way back when as well. Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego.
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
**************************************
Sean Altman & David Yazbek
Arrangement: David Yazbek, Sean Altman & Bill Straus
Lead Vocal: Kevin Wright & Scott Leonard
Well she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina
She's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize
She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China
Tell me, where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Steal their Seoul in South Korea, make Antarctica cry 'Uncle,'
From the Red Sea to Greenland they'll be singing the blues
Well, they never Arkansas her steal the Mekong from the jungle
Tell me, where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
She goes from Nashville to Norway, Bonaire to Zimbabwe,
Chicago to Czechoslovakia* and back!
Well, she'll ransack Pakistan and run a scam in Scandinavia,
Then she'll stick 'em up Down Under and go pick-pocket Perth
She put the Miss in misdemeanor when she stole the beans from Lima
Tell me, where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Oh, tell me, where in the world is...tell me, where can she be?
Botswana to Thailand, Milan via Amsterdam, Mali to Bali, Ohio, Oahu!
Well she glides around the globe, and she'll flim-flam every nation
She's a double-dealing diva with a taste for thievery
Her itinerary's loaded up with moving violations
Tell me, where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
* In concert, Rockapella sings this as "Czech and Slovakia"

Prodigy - Diesel power:
Yo, I used to check out lyrics upon the format
Build with skill with technique. Computer A-DAT
My lyrical form is clouds on your brainstorm
I get hyped think thought flow. Acrobat, sink the track, pump
the track
Dance missions, clubs like spores react by. Strong visions
And hurrying more. Reflects on the dancefloor
Flow it up and having now people showing up
Packing crowds jam packed venues
Needles collapse, while atmosphere continues
Sprinkle that,
Winnin' like that, movin'like that, hittin' like that
The melody is phat
Yeah, I'm on the energy source
The cosmic force
With Prodigy
Kicking astrology
My intellect's the power
With Diesel Power
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fanta..
We spin back rewind. Diesel Power
Blows your mind drastically, fantasically
It has to be, automatically
Check it out. You better work it out
Change to another bug
My techniques, strategies, abilities.
I leave cords of mikes hanging like Spring Lees
You would try so fast. Beyond the human eye
Lyrical tactics, vocal gymnastics
E's and pepped up
You get swept up
Smacked up, backed up, your crew's all cracked up
Checking flow
Quick choose quick
You can't stick
My medical brain's a stranger's angles
You get tangled. Twisting side effects us
Channels repeat, complete. Can't compete
Check that our texture
Mind adventure
Exploit the point
It attracts to devour
My intellectual seed
With diesel power
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fanta...
Back attack
And wack patch you're faxing me
You don't want none
High quality acts should be still standing
Damaging your other manic
Quick reverse
Bolting as the first verse
My amplifier blows on your world's higher
World's sire
Cuts like a barbed wire
Record player
I pull up on you every day
Fast forward
I move And I swings forward
Exit load
Put your brain in right mode
Selected mix
The man with perfected fix has lightly bite me
Copy zimmer. Cops' handblocks
You can't knocks some out there
I've been lifting,shifting, persisting
Intelligent kingpin
Keep the strategy
As I roll with Prodigy
With Diesel Power

breathe(& breathe reprise) is one of my fave pink floyds. i don't know why, but i always get a tingle down my spine when i hear this from breathe reprise:
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.
it sort of reminds me of far away places, forbidden things, hidden forces, and the unknown. its quite poetic, i think. quite beautiful and flowing.
one of my favourite bands of all time - joy division. ian curtis couldn't sing a single note on tune. their technical ability was barely above amateur. but when you put the whole thing together, it was simply brilliant, with more creativity, feeling, and invention packed into any one of their songs than all the boy/girl bands of today and yesteryear all put together.
New dawn fades - Joy division
A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun wont set you free.
So you say.
Well share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
well give you everything and more,
The strains too much, cant take much more.
Oh, Ive walked on water, run through fire,
Cant seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time, hoping for something else.

I suppose the below lyrics would have to be one of my favorites, though there are so many for which I have an affinity, and I am a bit too lazy to try and dig up some of the more obscure songs I like.
Velvet Realm by ClockDVA
Through all the dreams of the night
I came for you
In this room where I'll awake
To find your face
Inside this burning heart I know
This time it's you
Chance is stranger
I wait for you
Through all the endless Dreams of time
I came for you
Through all the stations of the past
I came for you
Through all the endless nights
I came for you
Through all the visions of the past
I came for you
Through all the endless nights
I came for you
In this mirror time fades slowly
I see your face
In this velvet realm I feel your touch
An exchange of love
We are bound together
Our fate is love
We are bound together
Our fate is love
Through all these moments
I thought of you
Through all these endless nights
I move for you
Through hearts of fire
I came for you
Through all the endless nights
I cared for you

Seems to me the same old thing
Some old people the same old town
Somethign with you in another place

I'll be your chauffeur on a midnight drive
It takes a miracle just to survive
Buried animals call your name
You keep on sleeping
Through the poignant rain
I think we're going crazy
Her left eye is lazy
She looks so Israeli
Nicotine and gravy
I'll feed you fruit that don't exist
I'll leave graffiti
Where you've never been kissed
I'll do your laundry
Massage your soul
I'll turn you over
To the highway patrol
I think we're going crazy
Things don't even faze me
Her left eye is lazy
Nicotine and gravy
Miracles amaze me
She looks so Israeli
Love the way she plays me
I think I'm going crazy

I believe in fires at midnight ---
When the dogs have all been fed.
A golden toddy on the mantle ---
A broken gun beneath the bed.
Silken mist outside the window.
Frogs and newts slip in the dark ---
Too much hurry ruins the body.
Ill sit easy ... fan the spark
Kindled by the dying embers of another working day.
Go upstairs ... take off your makeup ---
Fold your clothes neatly away.
Me, Ill sit and write this love song
As I all too seldom do ---
Build a little fire this midnight.
Its good to be back home with you.
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Fire at Midnight
Simple. Short. Perfect.
