Hello, so I recently installed gnome 3 on Ubuntu 11.04 and now my system settings seem to have been downgraded. I can't access most of the settings from Ubuntu 10.10. I went into unity and the same problem occurred. I had a lot of partial upgrades for some reason after I upgraded to 11.04. Here is a screen shot of the system settings.

Thanks!

Which system settings are you looking for?

This has been a goal of Gnome for some time. This is the new "system settings" for Gnome 3. I can actually give you some Gnome dev's quotes about how they are dumbing things down on purpose. Gnome 2 had been around long enough for third parties to write code/apps to extend it's functionality. This has started for Gnome 3, but it is still young.

Oh, that explains a lot. Is there anyway I can access some of the programs that used to be in the list? I can't seem to remember all the old programs that were useful. I know you can just type in synaptic in the search bar and it'll show up but sometimes it's nice to just have a list of all the settings.

Depends on what settings you're looking for. Some are still there by using gconf-editor, and dconf-editor. Others such as theme/icons have been ripped out. There is a tool called gnome tweak to bring back some of the missing options. I think it is slowly adding features as it matures. http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/introducing-gnome-tweak-tool-gui-to.html

Here is the old config center. Makes you sick doesn't it? I'm glad I use KDE.

Thanks for all your help! I think I'll give the gnome-tweak-tool a try. Hopefully some settings will be put back in.
