How do I install a . diff file in Ubuntu 10.04

Good morning all,
I downloaded a package with an extension .diff.gz. I extracted it and got a .diff file. Can anyone please show me how to install a .diff file?

I have not installed one , but searching around lead me to a question that may or may not lead in in the right direction . Is this for a game running under Wine or a cad program file of some kind ?
