Hi all,

I am new to the forums and to Ubuntu. I am having a very bad IT week, I've recently installed Ubuntu onto a recently formatted Dell laptop from a USB Ubuntu pen drive.

I've created a few partitions on my 150Gb Hd as follows: 20Gb for Windows, 10Gb for Ubuntu, 3Gb for swap and the remainder for general use.

I decided to remove the Ubuntu installation from my PC and use it from the USB stick. I did this by deleting the partition in Windows Disk Manager. This was ok until i restarted the PC. Since then I have been unable to access Windows or Ubuntu. I can get into Ubuntu from the pen drive though.

I have also tried to boot from the Windows CD but it tell me that there are no hard disks on the machine so it cannot continue.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do please??

Cheers,

Pedro

Not recommended. That's only for trying it out, not for permanent use.

Welcome to the fora.

Agree with the post above: Running Ubuntu from a USB stick is too slow.

Do you have any ideas how I can wipe my laptop and start again?

Can I do anything from the bootable Ubuntu usb pen drive?

Yes, boot from the USB drive and run Gparted.

You can also install Gparted Live to your USB drive or burn it to a CD, and use that at startup to partition and format.
