I recently tried to upgrade my Dell Latitude C610 from 10.10 to 11.04, but it got kernel panic right in the middle. Now it at least boots, but the mouse doesn't work--only the keyboard does. How do I fix this enough to use the mouse, or how do I operate Gnome with a keyboard?

:(

A kernel panic is a serious failure. It compares to the blue screen in Windows.

It is not certain that we can save the installation, but you could try booting the computer and run

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Please post the error messages, if any.

Thanks for your help. I wanted to do what you said earlier, but I couldn't get to the terminal (windowed or fullscreen), so I just took my data off the drive (with another Ubuntu box) and reinstalled it. It works better than ever before. :P
