so here are my specs

Processor Name: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor
Videocard Name: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
Installed Memory: 4,095.24 MB
motherboard :Biostar motherboard GF8200C-M2
HDD : 500gb

now i can run Ubuntu 10.04 with a live cd with no problems.Picks up everything i have installed
i cannot run Ubuntu 11.04 with a live cd.It just hangs on the purple screen with Ubuntu name and the 4 boxes beneath.i have left for a while but nothing.
Is it the graphic card??

i know the cd's are fine as i have dual installed on a laptop with Windows 7.
i have no problems running 11.04 and the Unity desktop.
But my laptop has on board graphics.

i wish to dual boot my desktop , and i do need windows (family streaming around the house for movies etc etc .

any help / advice would be helpful.:D

Try setting nomodeset as an option when you boot the LiveCD.

See this link for more on how to do this:
