Hey everyone, I'm trying to install ubuntu alongside Windows 7 on a HP Pavilion DV3. When I reboot I'm given the option to either boot into windows or ubuntu(this is after running the wubi program from the ubuntu website); when I select ubuntu it says that the installation will continue but the screen then goes very dark like the brightness has been turned right down. In the center of the screen I can faintly see the word ubuntu. I've tried using the hot-keys on the laptop to turn the brightness up but this doesn't work. I've also tried installing from CD but his doesn't work either and I get the same problem.

This is my first time installing ubuntu so I'm not familiar with how the installation process works. Also if any other details are needed I'll be happy to give them.

Thanks

did you try ubuntu before installing?

The only way I've been able to try ubuntu was in a virtual machine because I always get this problem.

no, the live cd will give you an option to try ubuntu before installing.

theres a little in the forum about your video

I think I need to clarify my problem a bit.

I never get to the stage of choosing to try or install when using a live CD. Before this point the screen dims right down and seems to freeze and I have to restart.
