Nocturnes

Hey everyone, first time posting, and I come to you seeking advice.
Bit of back-story, I built the current computer I'm using, and my first installed OS (64-bit) was Ubuntu 9.10, as I didn't have any other OS at the time. I knew I might eventually, so during the install I split my hard drive into two partitions.
A short time after, I got Windows 7, and installed it on my 2nd partition so as to dual boot the two. For 1-2 years now I've mainly booted Windows 7 for everyday work. And by now, as you well know, 9.10 has hit EOL.
What I want to do at this point is format my Ubuntu partition(s), merge them with my Windows 7 partition, then restart, interrupt start up to boot from a CD containing Ubuntu 11.04, install it, and split the resulting partition (of the earlier merge) between Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04.
Now come my questions... First of all, have I got the basic idea of how to properly do this down (I don't think of myself as an expert on this sort of thing)? I've heard horror stories of being locked out of Windows 7, or even losing Windows 7 data, after attempting something like this, so my aim is to do this safely, without error. Second, if I don't, what have I missed?
Third, the reason I said "Ubuntu partition(s)" earlier is because when viewing my partitions in Windows 7, I see two nameless partitions sized at 39.04 GB and 1.72 GB respectively, along with my 192.02 GB C: drive (W7) partition and my 100 MB System Reserved (W7) partition; I assumed the two nameless ones were Ubuntu and GRUB or something along those lines, since all are listed as healthy, primary partitions... Am I correct?
Any and all advice is appreciated, especially if you read everything!
