Hey everyone,

I have been using Ubuntu for about 1 year now since Lucid, and I want to learn more Linux programming and want to become a developer. I already know Fortran, Java, Bash scripting, and some Python (though I don't yet know C++, and I know much of Ubuntu is written in it). I've heard such good things about the Ubuntu community and I want to know how I can begin contributing.

Thanks ^-^

Ha ha, nice point about Kubuntu XD. Thanks for the link too, I hope to learn the codes in some of the software (such as GIMP etc.) and work my way up to GNOME and to the Linux kernel itself. Thanks for the info!

Hey everyone,

I'm really sort of lost on where I should start becoming an Ubuntu developer. I've looked into it and found many resources (including suggestions here) and I'm sort of overwhelmed with the amount of information about the Ubuntu community. I think the first step into development is to become a MOTU with .deb packaging and I've emailed them as well, but I'm not sure if I've overstepped anything because I haven't contributed to Open Source Software before. Even with some programming experience I really need some guidance on where I need to go.

Even XChat on my system doesn't work b/c of my broadband connection :'( so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Please don't create multiple threads on the same subject, I have merged your two threads.

You may get better help on the ubuntu-devel (https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-devel) mailing list.
