Hi,
I am very new with Ubuntu and linux. Recently installed ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition for FOG server project on HP Computer. Since i wanted GUI i installed the ubuntu using " sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop" and now i can run GUI

1. Now i need to assign a static IP address but in System - Preference - Network Connection - I cant see any network card installed

But when i go to System - Administration : Network Tools - I can see there is one eth0 with IP from DHCP and another Loopback adaptor.

I want to edit the eth0 and assign a Static IP address since it will act like a server.

What could be reason that network card is not availble to edit in Network Connection but its available in Network Tools to view
