I guess a 100 & 1 people have commented on the 11.4 User Interface. I was running from the Ubuntu 11.4 installation cd.

I'd say it is a poor copy of Mac OS X User Interface. You need to do more study on the Mac OS Dock.

Does the default list of apps include a finder? Navigation seems to be left out of the new UI. Seems limited to moving around your user data.

I had a poor experience using 11.4 had to go back to 10.x.

Could it be that is because Canonical weren't actually copying the Mac dock? Or OSX? They took elements from it (mainly the global menu) but Unity takes more from Windows 7 than it does Apple.

Indeed it does: it's the first icon on the launcher bar. It looks like a folder.
