View Full Version : [ubuntu] Very slow youtube's 720p and 1080p playback.

I have a problem playing those 720p & 1080p videos from youtube. I just left archlinux and did a clean install because of gnome 3. The videos play without problem on arch. I like unity so much. Please help me solve this problem.
Oh, I used to use ubuntu before moving to arch because arch feel faster. But I decided to move back because of unity.
Still dont understand why ubuntu is slower than arch...

i have the same problem, using firefox or chrome on youtube 720 and 1080 playback is like frame to frame (really slow)
i'm on Ubuntu 10.04 with a dell inspiron 1720, 2gb of ram and built-in intel video.
in my other partition (win 7) 720 and 1080 runs just perfect in the same browsers.

One Google search will let one know this has nothing to do with Ubuntu. Have you tried other flash media?
Youtube 720 and up is even slow streaming on a Windows machine. I have a 30mbs connection.
It is Youtube's servers.

Flash on Linux is known to be inferior to Flash on other Operating Systems.
Try the HTML5 version of YouTube: www.youtube.com/html5
Remember that you will need a recent browser in order to view HTML5 video.

Add X-swat ppa for latest video updates, just to see if compiz and unity is the issue, try booting into regular no effects Ubuntu desktop to see if this issue goes away.
