TLDR Version:

The call to action is two-fold with one justification:

1) Play with Comic-O-Matic (http://comicomatic.com/) and have fun! What boyfriend, girlfriend, life partner, loved one, or family member wouldn't love a custom personalized comic that was created just for them?

2) If you want to share your creations with the world, or view those of others, visit Freecomicnomics (http://freecomicnomics.wordpress.com/2011/06/18/chicken-dinosaur/). (The text of that specific comic I just linked would pass the very high bar set by the ubuntuforums.org Code of Conduct. Not all other comics do.)

3) Doing one or both of the above will be fun, and will support both a copyleft-friendly artist and an open source programmer. Freecomicnomics exists to support the creators of Comic-O-Matic.

Longer version:

Comic-O-Matic (http://comicomatic.com/) is a very fun little toy to create webcomics -- no drawing skills required. It is fun, and easy to use even though it is still in Beta. Click now (http://comicomatic.com/), and try it out. Attached to this thread is an example comic, made by my girlfriend.

It was coded by Margo Burns, a woman I hadn't previously heard of or communicated with, but whom is a big fan of both Open Source and copyleft (she intends to Open Source it soon - and not Android 3.0 soon, but normal-people-talk soon).

It's a great project that uses the art of Nina Paley - whom you may already be familiar with from the copylefted feature film Sita Sings the Blues (http://www.sitasingstheblues.com/) - go to that website or legally download it now from thepiratebay.org if you haven't seen it yet.

Here's C+P from a website I created called "Freecomicnomics (http://freecomicnomics.wordpress.com/2011/06/18/chicken-dinosaur/)", intended to be a mostly unmanaged place for folks to share their comic-o-matic creations with the world without having to have 6.7 billion facebook friends, and requiring as little technical knowledge as possible -

About & Post Your Own Comics (http://freecomicnomics.wordpress.com/about/)

If you’d like to post your comics here, please read the below, e-mail me at mason.christopher.thomas -AT- gmail.com, and I’ll e-mail you back with everything you need to post your comics here in a jiffy. It’s super easy, requires no technical knowledge aside from being able to use Comic-o-Matic, and more people will see your stuff than if you’d only posted it on your facebook wall.

This website exists to generate traffic for and encourage the use of Comic-O-Matic, created by Nina Paley and Margo Burns. Please use, visit, share Comic-O-Matic and consider donating to the Comic-O-Matic inventors (not me) if you feel so inclined!

The rules and everything haven’t been sorted out yet, a wing it approach is going to be utilized. Expect the publication of comics here to be some sort of copyleft and I don’t plan on regulating what any contributor posts aside from keeping personal flamewars and vendettas away and requiring that the only images posted are those created on Comic-o-Matic. Provided children continue to be allowed to purchase & read books that contain written profanity, that should take care of keeping this from falling into the technical realm of “adult material”.

I set this up on my own and neither Nina Paley or Margo Burns is directly involved in this website (though they have expressed their support to me).

Content posted on this website should be regarded entirely as fiction, and in any case is the sole responsibility of the person posting the content. Anyone objecting to any content for any reason should contact the person(s) that posted it.

(Note to mods: I think I'm in the clear with three Freecomicnomics links I posted. All links to pages that would pass the local CoC even if posted directly on ubuntuforums.org. Let me know if anything needs to be changed.)
