I have a problem installing Ubuntu on an Acer 5000 Aspire Laptop (#2). The following say where I am at.
1. I have downloaded 10.04 and 11.04 and installed them to CDs.
2. The 10.4 CD installed fine on a different Acer 5000 Aspire laptop (#1).
3. Neither CD installs on #2.
4. These laptops do not support USB boot. Both are of a very similar age.
5. When trying to install 11.04 on #2, if I hit escape I seem to toggle into a screen showing the commands being executed. The earliest 'fail' I see is "POSIX did not return a true value", then several "BEGIN failed" messages. Later I get lots of different SQUASHFS errors, all starting "unable to read...." plus other errors.
6. #2 runs Windows XP OK, and chkdsk finds no errors.
Any suggestions?
