I have Ubuntu Netbook Remix on a netbook. A buddy that builds computers with ******* OS told me that I can copy the files from the Windows XP CD onto my 250G external hard drive and install XP from there.
I've already partitioned 30G for Windows and set a "Boot" flag, using gparted.
When I try to boot using the external hard drive, it goes to a black screen with just the words "BOOT ERROR". I have to restart and boot with the internal hard drive.
The other thing I've tried is, while in Ubuntu, I open the external hard drive and click on autorun.inf and I've tried clicking on setup.exe. They both try to install via wine which I don't want.
How do I get Windows XP to install from the external hard drive?
