So, Random none interesting post but I have been thinking of giving Ubuntu 11 a try!

Reasons for not switching:

1. Everything works perfectly
2. It is stable and does everything I want
3. Will be a little bit of work

Reasons for switching:

1. Curiosity
2. Ubuntu keeps reminding me something else exists the # 11
3. Maybe it is better?

I know this has been talked about before but it takes me some time before I am convinced of making the switch and today might be the day.

Then go ahead?
I don't know about compatibility regressions, but if you don't Unity simply log out and chose "Classic" from the bottom of the screen*.

*This won't work in 11.10 and later because GNOME is dropping 2.X and with it, the Classic UI. There is something close in GNOME 3, but that's more a of a "cross that bridge when we get there".

Off-topic: The "11" isn't a typical version number. It's the year of release, and "04" is the month. Your post makes it look like maybe you don't realize that.

I had great success with 10.10 and 11.04 is running just as well , but user experience seems to vary .

I thought that too (I'm staying with 10.10) but curiosity killed the Meerkat ;)

I stick with LTS on my main install. Though, I'm playing with 11.04 on my netbook.

I found 10.10 irritating after being with 10.04 for so long, so i had to switch back. Although I haven't had a chance to look at 11.04 yet, I'll have to check it out soon.

Since I haven't had any problems with 11.04 I,m thinking of switching to 11.10:D

Personally I advise against switching for the sake of it. If you want to though, try a live cd before you do an upgrade. :)

I stick with the LTS myself.

You found Maverick Meerkat irritating compared to Lucid Lynx? In what way?

Well, when i upgraded I had ridiculous spec, which had no effect on my previous Lucid installation, but ended up having an effect on my Maverick installation, so I took the lazy route and just reverted back, I realize it won't lag now but, I doubt I'll be upgrading anytime soon.

edit: I've just upgraded to Maverick Meerkat, currently liking it :D

I have 10.10 on my main machine which works perfectly, so why switch? On the other hand I have installed 11.04 on an external harddrive so I can experiment with Unity and other things just by booting from it. Other than some annoying Unity bugs (like tray icon problems) it is pretty sweet too.

I'm the same. I've got 10.10 running as my main installation. I put 11.04 on a new partition last week to have a look but I can't really be arsed with it; I've got everything set up how I like and going through the hassle of fiddling around with a bazillion settings all over again just so I get to moan about unity seems a bit daft. I'll probably leave everything as it is until the next LTS is released.

If you are not willing to deal with potential issues or you don't have some free time to spare, don't upgrade. If you feel adventurous, then go ahead.

If you don't like Unity, you can use Ubuntu Classic (No Effects) which is exactly like 10.10. In 11.10 you can get the 10.10 interface by installing "gnome-session-fallback", despite original reports by the Gnome guys, the classic mode is still be supported and developed for Gnome 3. 11.10 is still in Alpha and it very buggy.

I was intended to stick to 10.04 but somehow move to 11.04 and everything works fine. Unity is a totally different experience although it is not perfect it work pretty well. For familiarity I sometime switch to classic. Find something that work and stick to it.
