I am running a netbook (MSI U160DX): Atom N455 processor, 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, a Realtek wireless card that is occasionally a bit unreliable (or at least very sensitive to position when it comes to successfully connecting to the Internet - I've walked 30 feet and had the connection fail, in a large library where the whole building should have wireless access). I'm running 10.10 Netbook Edition (so already on Unity, which I'm happy with) - would 11.04 fix my wireless problem, or would it potentially break more things? What's new to 11.04 besides the support for Unity, which I already have?

You know what, try it on a live CD. You ll be sure that way that it doesn't break anything ;)

+ 1 for trying it with a live CD/USB.

As you are using a netbook and probably don't have an external CD reader, follow these simple steps :

1. Download the 11.04 ISO of your choice (32/64bit)
2. Open Ubuntu Software Center
3. Search for 'UNetbootin' and install it.
4. Insert a +2GB USB keyb and fire up UNetbootin
5. Install the LiveCD directly onto your USB and once done, restart your netbook and boot from this USB.

Enjoy and hope this helps !

Also maybe you should try to install the newest drivers for your wireless device:

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/internet/C/ndiswrapper.html

The driver you should install is 'msi Lan_6890/6891'

there are problems with a 800x480 screen though!

Also on the EeePC 701, the installation does not recognize your SD card. You have to boot without SD, and later insert it.

because of the screen issues, and no longer being able to change the effects settings (so that windows can be dragged outside of the screen space), I installed it on my sony vaio SD card, and transferred it on my EeePC.
