I booted up my Ubuntu VM today expecting to upgrade to 11.04 and play with the new desktop, but to my surprise when I checked the version number read 11.04. It's definitely the old interface though. Any thoughts?

Is there an option to choose Unity as your session at the login screen?

Unity needs hardware accelerated graphics to run (else it'll fallback to standard Gnome 2)

Does your VM software allow for accelerated hardware?

There you go, I enabled hardware acceleration through my VM, but how do I activate unity now? I rebooted, but nothing.

At the login screen there is a drop-down (well, drop-up actually!) box which lets you select which session type you want. Pick Unity.

Unity is not one of the listed options. It has Ubuntu, Ubuntu Classic, Ubuntu Classic (no effects), Safe Mode, Recovery Mode and User Defined.
