Hi, I'm sure there are some wikis or blog entrys outhere where you can find some information how to partition in ubuntu installation.
But first, you need to know what you want to do.
Do you want a dual-boot with a shared partition between both OS ?
Do you want to install ubuntu on the whole hard drive ?

I would rather partition it because I do not want to have do a full reinstall when I have destoryed my workspace.

I rahter just install or repair and have my data still intact.

Situation -

User account 1 is totally destoryed with my work on it
User account 2 still works fine

all my work is on user account 1
User account 2 is like a brand new with no custom themes or anything just has the software I have installed

as User 1 i can log into the workspace but the screen is locked because I tryied to pull a fast but taking the .gonme .gonme & .congf folders from User 2 and replacing them to user 1

Now there is a password mismatch and it is locked down like Akon!!

so maybe what you are looking for is a separate home folder, but sounds like a backup or clone would be better. or take a look at virtualbox.
