thunderbird address book

I have 10.04 LTS installed and am using Thunderbird. It works fine, but when I try the address book sidebar (click, double-click, or etc) it won't put the address in the To: field...it does nothing.
Looking for a way to resolve this.

Does that happen with every person in the contacts? If you right click on the person's name and select properties is there an email address in the email field?

Preferences-> Composition-> addressing-> is local address book checked?

It happens with all contacts imported from outlook csv file. There is the correct email in that field. If I manually enter a contact in the same format, it works properly.
